Large apartment complexes handle move-outs on a schedule. The leasing office walks the unit with a standard checklist, and anything marked dirty becomes a line item on your final statement.
How complex inspections work
Most complexes inspect within a few days of move-out using a form that covers every room. Cleaning issues are often charged at a set rate per item, such as the oven, the fridge or each bathroom. Ask the leasing office for a copy of the move-out checklist before you go. Many will give it to you.
What gets flagged most
- Grease inside the oven and on the range hood.
- Food residue in the fridge and freezer.
- Soap scum and hard-water stains in the tub and shower.
- Dust on blinds, ceiling fans and A/C vents.
- Marks on baseboards and around light switches.
- Carpets and floors under where furniture stood.
Tip: take date-stamped photos of every room after the clean and before you return the keys. If a charge shows up on your final statement, you have a record of how you left the unit.
Timing with your lease end
Book the clean for after the movers leave and before your key return appointment. Utilities need to be on. If the complex has a strict move-out time, tell us and we will plan around it.
